He served only 10 years of that sentence because he died in prison of throat cancer in 2002. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. It wasn’t until 1992 that Gotti was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of justice, illegal gambling, extortion, tax evasion, and loansharking.
